Blog for week of January 10

Welcome to the snow!!

This week we looked again at snowmen and read a story about a lost mitten stuck in a snowman. We also looked at books written or illustrated by Lois Ehlert.  She uses cut paper pictures for her book illustrations. We will be able to look at more of her books on Thursday at the Westland Public Library, located at 6123 Central City Pkwy. in Westland. We will meet there at 9:30 Thursday morning. So if you are not coming to the library, we will not have preschool that day.

Some of the KDIs we concentrated on today were-

Reflection: Children reflect on their experiences.- Each morning at the end of morning meeting, we "plan to play". Each child decides what they would like to play with for the free play time that follows. When we return to the red rug, we review, did we play what we planned? Many three year olds simply say yes. Many of them don't play the same thing the whole free play time. We are working on recalling those memories and verbalizing them.

Alphabetic knowledge: Children identify letter names and their sounds.- We added letters to our "Chika, Chika Boom, Boom" tree, looked at, made the sound of and traced the letter Mm for mitten.

Jesus Time- This week we heard the story of the boy Jesus at the temple. We learned that Jesus was doing his heavenly Father's business. We have a job to do to, we sang the song,"This Little Light of Mine" to remind us to show we are children of God.

Books of the Week- "The Missing Mitten Mystery" by Steven Kellogg, "Chika, Chika, Boom, Boom" by John Archambault and Bill Martin, Jr., illustrated by Lois Ehlert. Hopefully we will see other Lois Ehlert books at the library.

We did manage to make it outside, some of us, for a short time today. Please make sure your child has boots, hat and gloves or mittens. Please be prepared to go outside. Snowpants would be great too!

Have a great week!
