Blog for May 16 and 18

We are really cooking this week! Our theme is cooking and playing like we are cooking.

Table activities are playing with oatmeal with measuring cups and spoons, painting bread with colored milk and then toasting it, making salad with green paper and playing with it with tongs, making playdoh cookies.

We are looking at the following KDIs this week-

Data analysis: Children use information about quantity to draw conclusions, make decisions, and solve problems.- how much oatmeal fits in this bowl, spoon, cup? How many little cups does it take to fill this big bowl?

Tools and technology: Children explore and use tools and technology.- We are using cooking tools this week. Whisks to stir, flipping pancakes with a spatula, tongs to grab salad, etc.

Jesus Time- This week we hear about the first Christian martyr Stephen. Stephen was chosen to help the disciples out when the church got so large on Pentecost. He helped make sure the church was helping those who needed help and also proclaimed the truth about Jesus. The Jewish leaders brought him in to threaten him to try and get him to stop talking about Jesus. He refused and testified to the Jewish leaders, showing them through Old Testament prophecies that Jesus was who he said he was. They were furious! They took him outside, threw him down and threw stones at him until he died. They placed their coats at the feet of a man named Saul. Stephen gave a courageous testimony about Jesus and Christians spread the news about Jesus all over the known world.

Books of the Week- "Pancakes, Pancakes" by Eric Carle, "Peanut Butter and Cupcake" by Terry Border and "If You Give a Mouse a Muffin" by Laura Numeroff.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Schneck
