Blog for September 12 and 14

Week two of preschool is off to a magnetic start!!

This week we are playing with magnets. On Tuesday, we experimented with magnetism. We looked at a mixture of items and tried to guess which ones would stick to a magnet and then we tested our guesses. We also looked at the magnetic field and how magnets attract and repel.

On Thursday, we will continue playing with magnets, painting using a magnet to move a nut through paint, making magnetic sculptures which reinforce the idea of a magnetic field, and listening for the letter Mm for Magnet.

Our Word of God story for the week is about Adam and Eve and the first sin. God created a beautiful world and placed Adam and Eve in a beautiful garden where all their needs were provided for! They had all the food they could eat, no weeds grew. They had work to do, but it was a pleasure. God had placed two trees in the middle of the garden, The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. God told Adam and Eve not to eat from those trees. This was a way that they could show their love for God, by doing what he asked them to do. Satan, in the form of a snake, came and tempted Adam and Eve to eat, and they did.
God removed them from the garden so they wouldn't eat from the Tree of Life and live forever in sin. He told them life would be hard for them from now on, but He also promised a Savior who would come, live a perfect life and die an innocent death for all our sins.

Some of the KDIs we are looking at this week are-

Experimenting: Children experiment to test their ideas.- what is magnetic?

Vocabulary: Children understand and use a variety of words and phrases. - we do introduce scientific words with explanations just so they have heard the word and they may make a deeper connection later!

An informational slip went home today about the field trip next Wednesday to Plymouth Orchards and Cider Mill. We will meet at the Orchard at 9:15 and you are free to stay as long as you like! Please return the slip whether you are going or not, so I have an accurate number and know if we still need to wait for someone for the hay ride!

Have a terrific week!!
